It has variously been placed in the Liliaceae, the Haemodoraceae, the Tecophilaeaceae or the Nartheciaceae.Lophiola aurea Ker Gawl. - southeastern United States from Louisiana to North Carolina; also isolated populations in Delaware, New Jersey, and Nova Scotia
