Palmerella debilis
The story
For generations, this unique member of the Campanulaceae family was known to botanists and collectors by a completely different name: Lobelia dunnii. However, taxonomic classification eventually recognized its distinctiveness, placing it as the sole representative of the genus Palmerella. This rare plant quietly persists in its native haunts, spanning just eight counties in southern California and stretching down into northern Baja California.
