Kabocha
Cucurbita maxima

The story
Over 4,000 years ago, in northern Argentina near the Andes or within certain Andean valleys, people began domesticating a wild plant known as Cucurbita maxima subsp. andreana. This ancient relationship transformed the wild species into one of the most diverse domesticated crops on Earth, eventually spreading to secondary centers of diversity as far as India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the southern Appalachians.
